Spring Sounds Beautiful

DP The MacombersThe Goodwill Ambassadors of Macomb Community College, The Macombers, will present their Spring Extravaganza with the Garfield Singers at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.

The Macombers is one of the finest show choirs in the state. Michigan’s oldest college show choir, founded in 1970, has grown in emphasis and stature. A group of gifted Macomb Community College scholarship students, currently under the direction of Harvey Kahl, The Macombers perform dozens of shows a year throughout the Metro Detroit area and beyond. The Macombers continue to receive rave reviews with new and exciting musical selections performed by its talented members.

The highly choreographed show choir ensemble has appeared on stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Neil Sedaka, Judy Collins, Marvin Hamlisch and Tom Jones. As the Goodwill Ambassadors of Macomb Community College, The Macombers perform for everyone from American Presidents and major corporations, to local school children. Each year they take center stage at the Macomb Center in two “Extravaganzas” – one in spring and one in fall – to help benefit The Macombers Scholarship Fund.

Members of The Macombers use their two-year scholarship opportunity with Macomb Community College to prepare for transfer to universities, to update occupational skills and to explore new careers. Many former members continue their careers as professional entertainers on cruise ships, television and stage. Even more use their Macombers experience to become teachers and leaders in business and the community.

The Garfield Singers, made up of gifted and talented junior high school students, will join The Macombers, for the evening’s program. The show will include the best of musical theater, featuring music styles of Pop, Broadway, Big Band and more.
