Celebrating Ángel Corella and the Michigan Opera Theater
Take a moment to check out this short, promo-style video detailing ballet superstar Ángel Corella’s recent visit to our magnificent Detroit Opera House and his upcoming retirement from American Ballet Theatre.

As many of you may know, Ángel’s final performance as principal dancer with ABT takes place tomorrow night, so this piece (at interstitial-length for local broadcast) is intended to introduce a general viewing audience to Ángel, his company Barcelona Ballet, and changing role in the ballet community at large.
This piece also represents another sort of teaser-trailer, giving a sneak-peek of the stellar footage we’ve already captured of Angel and his company for an upcoming series of DPTV vignettes made possible by a generous gift from Maggie Allesee.
Given the opportunity to expand this story out, we’ve got a small crew led by DPTV Doc Unit producer Genevieve Savage heading to NYC today to capture some of the buzz surrounding Ángel’s final performance, conduct interviews with fans and dance experts, and grabbing the morning-after interview with Angel himself.
To catch this first tease on-air, you can see it tonight leading into PBS Newshour just before 6 p.m., with a repeat broadcast just before 11 p.m.
Thanks to David DiChiera and the staff of the Michigan Opera Theatre for opening their doors to this effort.
