Rivers Edge Gallery presents Paintings and Poetry

River’s Edge Gallery presents a show where every picture tells a story. Fortunate are those who get to enjoy them, for each of the works in “Paintings and Poetry” also contains a poem.

Paintings and Poetry features fairy-tale inspired paintings by Nancy Pitel with the poetry of Pat Barnes interposed. There will be an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 19 from 6-10 p.m.

The new exhibition runs through Nov. 13.  River’s Edge Gallery is located at 3024 Biddle, Wyandotte and

Nancy Pitel is an award winning artist and photographer. Her works have been featured in over 20 galleries nation-wide, including River’s Edge where her latest work commemorates Breast Cancer Awareness month. “Art is for everyone,” says Pitel. “One doesn’t need understand the nuances to enjoy it. If the art is good, it will bring about remembered feelings and thoughts; if the art is great it will create new feelings and encourage new thinking that the viewer has never experienced before.” This is certainly true of “Painting and Poetry,” which takes the beloved fairy tales to a whole new level.

Pat Barnes has won many awards for her poetry, including First Prize at the Word and Sound International Creative Writing Competition. When asked about the collaboration effort, Barnes had this to say: “Sometimes her pictures inspired my words, and sometimes my words inspired her pictures. We made an excellent team, drawing creativity from and to each other.”

Gallery owner, Pat Slack, is thrilled for the show. “For many years, I’ve admired Nancy’s ability to bring to life fairy tale scenes with realistic painting,” says Slack. “Adding the poetry helps you really connect with it.”

Located on the First Floor Gallery, the show will coincide with the Second Floor show, featuring artists Time Péwé and Audrey Pongracz. The two shows blend melodiously and both are collaboration efforts between two artists.
