Every child deserves a chance no matter their backstory and Art&Soul is doing all it can to give those chances through the Art&Soul Dreams traveling photo exhibition opening Saturday August 5th at the Pontiac Creative Arts Center.
Art&Soul Dreams matches award-winning photographers with foster children to create photographs that capture each foster child’s spirit, heart and soul. Art&Soul Dreams features the foster children who are hardest to place in the system as they are older children looking for their forever home.
“Art&Soul will work tirelessly as a supportive partner to help increase the rate of adoption for children in the Michigan foster care and adoption system,” said Melissa Parks, Founder of Art&Soul.
Art&Soul has had success in matching children to their forever families and they are hoping to continue the success through this exhibition and help from others spreading the word.
“Together we can build a movement where our community takes action,” Parks said.
Public attending the opening will get the chance to meet the photographers, including Detroit Performs featured photographer, Janna Coumoundouros.
“I was honored to shoot (for Art&Soul Dreams),” Coumoundouros said. “It has helped these wonderful kids get adopted and the exhibit has been traveling different places.”
The highlighted foster children will be in attendance at the opening and will be given a camera so they can share their inner artist. Exactly what Detroit Performs is all about!
