Interactive reality television may capture our imaginations with shows like American Idol, The Voice and Dancing with the Stars, but they still can’t replace the experience of live entertainment – the lights, the sounds; the shared experience. Experience “The Voice” of Macomb Community College, The Macombers, one of the finest show choirs in the state, as they present the best of musical theater in their Fall Extravaganza at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 24 at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts.

The Magic Company, Macomb’s show choir for select high school students, will join The Macombers in performing a range of music styles including Pop, Broadway, Big Band and more. This year, the evening will also include a special performance featuring Michigan Caroling Company and Macomb Chamber Choir. One of Michigan’s oldest college show choirs, The Macombers, founded in 1970, continues to grow in emphasis and stature. Currently under the direction of Harvey Kahl, the 12-18 member group performs dozens of shows a year throughout the Detroit area and beyond. The highly choreographed show choir ensemble has appeared with professional performers such as The Cheiftains, Neil Sedaka, Judy Collins, Marvin Hamlisch and Tom Jones. As the Goodwill Ambassadors of Macomb Community College, The Macombers have performed for everyone from American Presidents and major corporations to local school children.

Tickets are $15 adults and $10 for children 12 and under. The Macombers is one of the finest show choirs in the state. Michigan’s oldest college show choir, founded in 1970, has grown in emphasis and stature. A group of gifted Macomb Community College scholarship students, currently under the direction of Harvey Kahl, The Macombers perform dozens of shows a year throughout the Metro Detroit area and beyond. The Macombers continue to receive rave reviews with new and exciting musical selections performed by its talented members.

The highly choreographed show choir ensemble has appeared on stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Neil Sedaka, Judy Collins, Marvin Hamlisch and Tom Jones. As the Goodwill Ambassadors of Macomb Community College, The Macombers perform for everyone from American Presidents and major corporations, to local school children. Each year they take center stage at the Macomb Center in two “Extravaganzas” – one in spring and one in fall – to help benefit The Macombers Scholarship Fund.

Members of The Macombers use their two-year scholarship opportunity with Macomb Community College to prepare for transfer to universities, to update occupational skills and to explore new careers. Many former members continue their careers as professional entertainers on cruise ships, television and stage. Even more use their Macombers experience to become teachers and leaders in business and the community.

The Garfield Singers, made up of gifted and talented junior high school students, will join The Macombers, for the evening’s program. The show will include the best of musical theater, featuring music styles of Pop, Broadway, Big Band and more.

All tickets are $18 and $20 at the door; $10 children 12 and under.
