Everyone who is interested in the past, present and future of downtown Detroit — and especially in the site of the former Hudson’s Department Store — are invited to provide input this weekend at the Opportunity Detroit Open House for the Design Competition in Downtown Detroit.

Members of the public are invited to view the Architectural Ideas on display at the Somerset Collection CityLoft space, 1261 Woodward Avenue, across from the original Hudson’s Store site from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The historic Hudson’s Store there was closed in 1983 and was imploded in 1998.

The FREE Community Open House, hosted by Opportunity Detroit, is a community campaign powered by Rock Ventures that promotes downtown Detroit and the city’s revitalization.

More than 1,000 people registered for the “Redesigning Detroit: A New Vision for an Iconic Site” design competition generating nearly 200 creative submissions from 22 U.S. states and 22 countries, featuring new development ideas for the vacant 92,421 square-foot parcel, the site of the old Hudson’s Department Store, built in 1911.

Somerset Collection CityLoft space, 1261 Woodward, is located between Grand River and State in downtown Detroit. There are many parking garages nearby for easy access, including Premiere Garage directly across from 1261 Woodward and the Compuware Structure.

The public input will spark community involvement, conversation and ideas for the redevelopment of one of the city’s most beloved and iconic sites, the site of the old Hudson’s Department Store, bordered by Woodward, Library, Grand River and Gratiot. For more information, click here.

The public is invited to attend, view and vote on their favorite designs. Top public vote getters will win: $2,500; $1,000 and $500 for first, second and third prizes respectively. Winners for the official judging will receive $15,000, $5,000 and $2,500 for first, second and third prizes. Winners in both categories are scheduled to be announced online and to media on Tuesday, June 11.
