We owe our freedom to these special men and women. We think everyone who cares about the nation should know their story and thank them for their service, the veterans of the United States armed forces.

In addition to outstanding programs on history and current events, Detroit Public Television Channel 56 offers many real world resources for veterans — men and women. To learn more about these and the other programs and resources available to those who may need them, go to dptv.org/vets.

Last year, the 2013 Governor’s Summit on Veterans Talent presented important news and information on what the State of Michigan is doing for veterans. To watch online, click here.

Former Army Staff Sgt. Salvatore Giunta delivered the keynote address, sponsored by Meijer, at the Governor’s Summit on Veterans Talent. Giunta was awarded the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions in Afghanistan on Oct. 25, 2007, making him the first living person to receive the award since the end of the Vietnam War.
