Educators report six weeks in the fall are spent re-learning old material to make up for summer learning loss. Detroit Public Television (DPTV) is taking a stand against summer learning loss with the introduction of the Summer of Badges program. Summer of Badges, a continuation of Digital Adventures and digital badging, takes learning outside the confines of the classroom and stretches far beyond the average school year in a way that is fun for kids.
By partnering with over 45 organizations in Detroit and the surrounding communities (including virtual partners), anyone anywhere can find opportunities that will allow them to explore their interests and earn a digital badge. In addition to the previously participating organizations, we have gained great new partners including the Detroit Tigers, Michigan Humane Society, Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, Hip 2B Fit, Brilliant Detroit, and the MSU Extension Center Detroit.
Please join Detroit Public Television and the work to combat summer learning loss. The Summer of Badges Program runs NOW through August 9. To sign up, visit: www.digitaladventure.org.
While kids can select any badge from any of our partners badges, every two weeks the Summer of Badge program will focus on three “featured” badges:
June 1-14: Reading and Writing
June 15-31: Science and Nature
July 1-14: Math and Engineering
July 15-31: Art and Music
August 1-9: Culture and Community Service
The TOP 10 badge winners, for each of the two week brackets, will receive a complimentary gift card. For updates on the Summer of Badges program follow us at@DPTVKidsClub or @dptv_edu on Facebook and Twitter. Share pictures of your child earning a badge on social media using #DigitalAdventure and they could be featured on one of our pages.
