PBS Books visiteds the Miami Book Fair, one of the nation’s oldest and largest literary festivals, for the opportunity to sit down and chat with some of the most important writers of our times – Salman Rashdie, George Saunders, Jeffrey Eugenides, and many others.
The 11 hours of live coverage, produced nationally for PBS by Detroit Public Television (DPTV), continues today and tomorrow from 1-5 p.m. ET. The co-hosts are PBS NewsHour Chief Correspondent for Arts, Culture and Society,Jeffrey Brown, and PBS Books executive producer, Rich Fahle.

Partnering with PBS Books on coverage of the Miami Book Fair is The Great American Read, a new series coming to PBS stations in 2018. The Great American Read will launch a national conversation about what we love to read and why, culminating in the first-ever national vote to choose “America’s Best-Loved Book.”
Now in its 34th year, the Miami Book Fair is held on the campus of Miami Dade College in downtown Miami. More than 200 exhibitors from around the country take part in the weeklong event and weekend street fair, attracting an estimated 250,000 visitors each year for author talks, book signings, panel discussions, musical performances and other activities.

THE GREAT AMERICAN READ is a ground-breaking, multi-platform event that will launch a national discussion about what we love to read and why, encouraging Americans to vote from a list of 100 books and advocate for their favorites. Anchored by a nine-part television series featuring testimonials from notable figures as well as everyday people and paired with a powerful digital and social presence, this initiative will reach into the fabric of communities around the country, igniting new ways to discuss and engage with some of the greatest and most popular works of fiction and culminating in the first-ever national vote to choose “America’s Best-Loved Book.” The series is produced by Nutopia.
