The Arab American National Museum presents an evening of literature and art featuring award-winning authors and poets on Saturday, Nov. 10. The special program marks the opening of a remarkable new exhibit, The Far Shore: Navigating Homelands, and celebrates the 2018 Arab American Book Awards. Activities begin at 7 p.m.
Melissa Chimera, Adele Ne Jame, Naomi Shihab Nye, and Hayan Charara will take audiences through a new visual and literary exhibition, The Far Shore: Navigating Homelands. Take a tour of new paintings, textiles and photography created in response to the contemporary poetry of the Arab immigrant experience.
The program will include refreshments and presentation of the 2018 Arab American Book Awards, with remarks and book signings by winning authors Safia Elhillo, Hala Alyan and Pamela E. Pennock. As part of the Book Awards program, poets presenting the opening of The Far Shore exhibition will take the stage to navigate the sometimes-challenging space between being Arab and American.
