Experience a beautiful synthesis of audio and visual when Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings and Black Young Professionals of Metro Detroit present “When Classical Meets Jazz.” Fusing classical and jazz artistry inspired by Kathleen Battle with contemporary painting by an emerging Detroit artist, the program is Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Hunt Street Station in Detroit at 6:30 p.m.

Black Young Professionals of Metro Detroit and Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings combine for a first-ever partnership to present “When Classical Meets Jazz,” a soul-stirring evening of selections from Kathleen Battle’s acclaimed album, So Many Stars. Join trombonist Vincent Chandler, soprano Kimwana Doner and some of Detroit’s most revered musicians for a journey through the African-American musical heritage with jazz arrangements of spirituals and other jazz-influenced pieces. The performance will be accompanied by improvised painting courtesy of Kresge Arts Fellow Saffell Gardner. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. at Detroit’s hot new creative space, Hunt Street Station.
Please note that this performance is on the Third Floor of Hunt Street Station with no elevator access. Patrons will need to take stairs in order to access the space.
