Detroit Public TV is proud to work in partnership with a great organization, MiAEYC (Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children), to celebrate all the many individuals across the state who care so much and work so hard for the well-being and success of our youth.
The Week of the Young Child is a local, state and national campaign aimed at bringing attention to young children and their families and the importance of high-quality programs and early childhood educators that support them.
First launched nationally in 1971, this special week recognizes that early childhood years (birth through age 8) establish the foundation for children’s success in school and later life. It serves as a time to plan how the all of us can work together to better meet the needs of all young children and their families.
There are countless ways to get your children and the whole family in the swing of things. On its website, MiAEYC offers a list of the top ten ways to participate in the Week of the Young Child, a calendar of fun activities and ways to incorporate diversity in the celebration. It’s all right here.
As MiAEYC says, children will learn as they enjoy music, explore food and cooking, build together, create art and celebrate their families.
Check out all the available resources for each day:
DPTV has produced a video promoting the Week of the Young Child, which we encourage you to post on your social media. And please share your stories with the station and MiAEYC on social media, using the hashtag #woyc19.
Let’s all work together to make this the best week ever for our children, and let it point the way to making every day of the year “The Day of the Young Child.”
