The flagship production of Brevity Shakespeare, Hamlet, will be performed tonight and tomorrow at the First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti. The production is set in the postcolonial years of an unnamed Caribbean island nation: lush and decaying greenery, crashing waves on rocky cliffs, and thick, heavy heat.
Curtain time at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 30 & 31. Running time is approximately ninety minutes.
Brevity Shakespeare’s production features Macallan Winning, Emily Wilson-Tobin, Aminata Sow, and Glen Thomas Rideout. Karl Sikkenga, Artistic Director of Brevity Shakespeare, directs.
Brevity Shakespeare emphasizes propulsive plot, vivified characters, and the most eternally vibrant English ever produced by any author. The productions crackle and flash; they are both original and faithful.
First Baptist Church of Ypsilanti is located at 1110 West Cross Street, Ypsilanti, Mich.
