Celebrate the arts of movement in all forms and disciplines at the Detroit Dance City Festival, coming to the Detroit Institute of Arts, Aug. 23-25. Now in its seventh year, DDCF includes performances by renowned local, national, and international performing artists, choreographers, and companies, along with master classes and networking opportunities — all held in the vibrant city of Detroit at the festival’s central venue, the DIA.
DDCF’s mission is to educate diverse audiences about the impact of dance, provide opportunities for artists to share their work, and create an artistic network linking Michigan, the greater US, and the world. Festival highlights include the “Choreographers Showcase” and “Dance and Celebration” performances, held within the DIA’s majestic Detroit Film Theatre.
Throughout the festival weekend, DDCF also hosts a variety of Master Classes taught by leading practitioners of diverse styles of dance. For younger dancers, DDCF offers a Kids Dance Camp, giving students the chance to expand their imaginations through movement, and perform for family and friends at the close of the festival. Through its ongoing partnership with the Detroit Institue of Arts, DDCF’s programs have expanded beyond the museum walls to include outdoor events and performances, free and open to all, including the DDCF’s Dancing in the Park and the “Summer Stage” series.
