Amazing images of a remarkable city and people were the subjects in Focus: On Detroit Photography Festival.

Presented by Focus:HOPE,  hundreds of people were on hand to enjoy the photographs on exhibit Aug. 24,  on fences, walls and tents outdoors at Cool Cities Park and inside the nearby Neighborhood Services Organization.

Celebrating all things Detroit through the lens of a camera, exhibitions included high-quality photographic works by a range of established and emerging photographers, ages 7 to 87.

Photographs, video and spoken word artists told stories about Detroit and its people, including Aretha Franklin and the artists of Motown.

Highlights included large-scale nighttime projections of photographs, videos and light sculptures on the historic Bell Building curated to live music.

Additional design elements included photo-related workshops and artists’ talks, hands-on activities, food trucks and a beer garden.

The image at the top of the page shows photographer Henry McClendon, and two of his works. The lifelong Detroit resident, a business owner and licensed builder, chronicled homes and establishments along Fenkell Avenue, telling the stories of a great neighborhood and great people.
