Plowshares Theatre Company and Black Theatre Matters present The Music of Black Theatre, a special program coming to Co.act Detroit. An exploration of music in the dramatic arts, the Plowshares Salon Series program begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. The program is free and open to the public, but reservations are required (link below).
Details from Plowshares Theatre Company:
The concept of musical theatre and theatre as two separate artforms is alien from an African perspective. So that explains why music is so important even in some of the most serious Black dramas. Learn how dramatists use music with other curious theatre lovers. Performers and the audience will explore the script and gain insight into several different productions. Also, see excerpts from popular musicals and plays with music. Finally, the hosts will close out the salon with a lively discussion around a light lunch.
This event is FREE and open to the public of all communities, but seats must be reserved. Click here for reservations.
Co.act Detroit is located at 6568 Woodward Ave., Detroit, Michigan.
