News and an invitation from Salvador Salort-Pons, Director, President and CEO of the Detroit Institute of Arts:

Dear DIA Family,

I hope this message finds you well.

If you’re like me, you miss the simple pleasures of being with friends and visiting your favorite places and spaces, so I’m sharing this tour of Diego Rivera’s Detroit Industry Murals, one of our most celebrated spaces, above. Enjoy!

Our teams are working hard to bring the museum to you digitally. To start, since children are now learning from home, I am sharing art activities you can do from home with your kids. Here is a link to one in PDF format (also available in JPG below). Please send or post photos of your little artists – we’d love to see their work!

I am moved by the acts of kindness in our community, and the DIA is doing its part as well – the museum uses protective equipment to preserve the health of the museum’s artworks. Last week, we donated those materials to local hospitals – Tyvek suits, swabs, masks, P95 mask cartridges, wiping cloths and 3,000 nitrile gloves.

Several of our long-time partners have dramatically changed their business operations to meet the needs of the global pandemic. Among them are Neiman Marcus, General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Fisher Dynamics, Quicken Loans, and Carhartt. We salute their commitment and thank them for their dedication to the health and safety of our citizens.

One bit of news related to the DIA and Neiman Marcus partnership: we have decided to cancel this year’s Founders Junior Council (FJC) Fash Bash event. For decades, the FJC has introduced young leaders to the museum, and Fash Bash has been their signature event. I am sure the FJC will be planning something spectacular for 2021.

The DIA continues to follow Governor Whitmer’s directive to shelter in place, and the museum is now closed until at least April 13.

I will continue to share updates with you, and I encourage you to contact Alexandria Armstrong, Annual Fund Officer, at with any questions or concerns you may have. Click here if you would like to donate in this critical moment to help sustain operations.

Thank you for your friendship and support as we seek ways to protect your health and safety and continue to connect people to art, and the joy it brings to our lives.
