The Obsidian Theatre Festival celebrates black stories and shines a light on the many enumerations of experiences relevant to the African diaspora in America. The Notes for Notes organization strives to provide youth with music and production instruction in areas that have a lack of access to music equipment. The organization is in 14 cities across the country and the Detroit branch brings one of its youths to the Marygrove Stage along with its producer.

Ryan Patrick Hooper turns his radio show “Culture Shift” into a live performance on the Marygrove stage as poet Jassmine Parks grips the audience with her passionate and moving words. Then De’Sean Jones and that famous saxophone of his leads the Urban Art Orchestra in a celebration of music.
